One night Big Bird saw a bug shining in the dark. he was sitting on the steps next to Oscar's Trash can. Big Bird realised the bug as a lightning bug. he asked the little green bug to come here. He said he would not hurt him. The little bug came close and Big Bird placed him in a jar. TWINKLE, TWINKLE, TWINKLE went the little lightning bug. The lightning bug was unhappy.
Once Big Bird had him in the jar he showed him to Ernie and asked the little bug to twinkle. TWINKLE, TWINKLE, TWINKLE went the lightning bug. the little bug was unhappy in the jar as Big Bird walked down the street to speak to Zoe. Big Bird looked at the little bug and asked him to twinkle for Zoe. TWINKLE, TWINKLE
,
TWINKLE the bug went for Zoe. As Big Bird approached a park bench he saw Bert and he showed the lightning bug to Bert. He asked the little bug to twinkle one more time. The little bug did not twinkle.
The next day Big Bird tried to get the little bug to twinkle. He tried to talking to him, giving him a pillow to sleep on, and sharing a cookie with him but he still would not twinkle. He even tried playing him some music and he still would not twinkle. Big Bird saw Grover walking by and asked him what he could do to make the little bug feel better. Grover then asked him how he would feel in someone put him in a jar. Big Bird thought about it and decided to let the little bug go. TWINKLE, TWINKLE, TWINKLE Went the little lightning bug as he flew high in the sky.

The kids were enthralled when the little lightening bug TWINKLED again when set free!!! and promised never to cage any birds, or bugs:)

Lion and the mouse

It was a hot summer day. Sun was shining bright up in the sky. A lion was sitting under the shade of a big tree and in some time got asleep. Nearby that tree, there was a hole, in which there lived a mouse. When the lion was sleeping, the mouse came out of its hole and saw him asleep.

Unaware of the lion's strength, it got tickled by an idea. It thought of waking up the lion by running over his body just for fun.

Unfortunately, the lion seized it in his strong paw. The mouse pleaded for its life. Being generous by nature, the lion set it free. The mouse promised to help the lion if it ever got the chance. The lion laughed aloud at this. After all, how could a tiny mouse help the king of the jungle?

A few days later, the mouse was passing through the jungle when he saw the same lion trapped in a hunter's net. Immediately, it set to work, gnawing at the ropes. Very soon the tiny mouse had set the lion free.

Before reading the story ,the kids were asked if they wanted to be a mouse or a lion, and to my surprise, they all wanted to be a mouse :) So, here are our naughty ones dressed up in their favorite character...

 Craft Activity:

Messy hands, plate full of water colors...and getting to hand paint their favorite character... Need I say more :) ??

The Thirsty Crow

One hot day, a thirsty crow flew all over the fields looking for water. For a long time, he could not find any. He felt very weak, almost lost all hope. Suddenly, he saw a water jug below the tree. He flew straight down to see if there was any water inside. Yes, he could see some water inside the jug!

The crow tried to push his head into the jug. Sadly, he found that the neck of the jug was too narrow. Then he tried to push the jug to tilt for the water to flow out but the jug was too heavy.

The crow thought hard for a while. Then looking around it, he saw some pebbles. he suddenly had a good idea. he started picking up the pebbles one by one, dropping each into the jug. As more and more pebbles filled the jug, the water level kept rising. Soon it was high enough for the crow to drink. His plan had worked!

Kids thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story and later actually putting the pebbles in a glass of water...and watching the water level rise! They swelled with pride when their cardboard made crows could actually reach the water level!!!!

The Gingerbread Man

The whole room echoed with the chant...

Run, run as fast as you can....

You can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man.....

....when the kids were handed over a little cookie with a gingerbread man picture to it.....

Here is the story for you to enjoy and read to your little ones over and over again....

Once upon a time, there were a little old woman and a little old man who lived in a little cottage near the river . The little old woman and the little old man were hungry, so the little old woman decided to bake a gingerbread man .

She made a big batch of gingerbread dough, then rolled it flat and cut it in the shape of a gingerbread man . She gave him raisins for eyes , a cinnamon drop for a mouth , and chocolate chips for buttons . Then she put the gingerbread man in the oven to bake.

When the gingerbread man was done, the little old woman opened the oven door, but before she could take him out, the gingerbread man jumped up and ran through the kitchen and out of the cottage shouting, "Don't eat me!"

The little old woman ran after the gingerbread man . "Stop," she yelled. But the gingerbread man ran even faster, chanting, "Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man ."

The gingerbread man ran into the garden and passed the little old man . "Stop," the little old man called out, "I want to eat you." But the gingerbread man ran even faster, chanting, "I've run away from a little old woman , and I can run away from you, I can. Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man ."

The little old man chased the gingerbread man , followed by the little old woman . But the gingerbread man ran too fast for them.

The gingerbread man ran through the yard and passed a pig . "Stop," the pig snorted, "I want to eat you." But the gingerbread man ran even faster, chanting, "I've run from a little old woman and a little old man , and I can run away from you, I can. Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man ."

The pig chased the gingerbread man , followed by the little old woman and the little old man . But the gingerbread man ran too fast for them.

The gingerbread man passed a cow by the barn . "Stop," the cow mooed, "I want to eat you." But the gingerbread man ran even faster, chanting, "I've run from a little old woman and a little old man and a pig , and I can run away from you, I can. Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man ."

The cow chased the gingerbread man , followed by the pig and the little old woman and the little old man . But the gingerbread man ran too fast for them.

The gingerbread man passed a horse in the field. "Stop," the horse neighed, "I want to eat you." But the gingerbread man ran even faster, chanting, "I've run from a little old woman and a little old man and a pig and a cow , and I can run away from you, I can. Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man ."

The horse chased the gingerbread man , followed by the cow , the pig , and the little old woman and the little old man . But the gingerbread man ran too fast for them.

Then the gingerbread man reached a wide river , but he didn't know how to swim. A sly and hungry fox saw the gingerbread man and said, "Jump on my tail, and I'll take you across the river !"

The gingerbread man thought to himself, "I'll be safe on his tail." So he jumped on the fox's tail and they started across the river .

Halfway across the river , the fox barked, "You're too heavy for my tail, jump on my back." So the gingerbread man jumped on the fox's back.

Soon, the fox said, You're too heavy for my back, jump onto my nose." So the gingerbread man jumped on the fox's nose. But as soon as they reached the riverbank, the fox flipped the gingerbread man into the air, snapped his mouth shut, and ate the gingerbread man .

And that was the end of the gingerbread man .

The story-time was followed by craft work....wherein the kids squeezed the glue, grabbed the crayons, and enthusiastically decorated their gingerbread man.....
